They prepared a meal and sat down to eat. Jesus took bread from the table and blessed it. He then broke the bread and the two disciples immediately understood that this was not just a mere man, but the risen Christ at their table. As their eyes were opened, Jesus vanished from their sight. They looked at one another and said; "Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures." What a moment! What a Savior! This fragile thing we refer to as hope came alive and these men were renewed. They would never be the same!
This same experience happens daily around the globe. No, Jesus Christ does not show up at people's homes for dinner, followed by personal Bible studies. However, Jesus does reveal himself to people who have vague comprehension about him, but no personal experience. They go through life clinging to whatever hope they can manufacturer, but eventually life throws an unexpected circumstance that they can't understand or deal with. Their fragile hope withers to nothing and they are prepared to hear from the one who loves them like no other.
Jesus Christ is in the hope business. He is always ready to reach out a hand to us when we are at our lowest. He is saying; "Come unto me all that are weary and heavy laden. I will give you rest." He is in the restoration business and all he asks of us is to trust him. Have you ever trusted Jesus with the issues of life? Have you ever trusted him with your soul? He knows what it is like to be human. He knows what it is like to die, but even more so, he knows what it is like to conquer death. He alone is uniquely able to help us in our desperate condition.

If you have never trusted the Lord with your eternal soul, please take this opportunity to do just that. In your own words, speak to him as you would to a loving father, a close brother or an intimate friend and ask him to save you. Let him know that your behavior falls way short of his righteous demands, but you will trust him with your life and your eternal future.
John 3:16 promises that the Lord gives eternal life to those that believe in Jesus Christ. Just as the men in our story had their eyes opened, you also will have your eyes opened. You will see things in a new perspective that has a hope based on the risen Lord. This hope is permanent because it is based on the life of the risen Lord, who will never die again. This hope will sustain you for a lifetime as you grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
